Here are some of the fabulous activities that we offer:
Trekking
You get to enjoy some of the magnificent scenery in the world, observe wildlife in its many forms, study a great variety of tropical plants and trees in favorable climatic conditions.
Some of the sights that our trek will take you through are:
Different kind of vegetation such as vegetable gardens, plantations and grassland
Typical Shola forests of the Western Ghats with the opportunities to view wildlife such as elephants, black buck and the great Indian hornbill
Remote parts of mountains with scenic beauty on the one side and wildlife on the other
Allopian lakes besides the occasional forest stream, a few remote villages or tribal settlements where you can have interaction with the natives
Rafting
Coracle-rafting on a river flowing across these wildlife reserves, you are likely to encounter river and land animals in their natural habitat. We have organized for camping in the tribal settlements, which adds spice to the rafting experience.
Elephant Safari
We have organized this safari on elephant back at Mudhumalai (which means ‘ancient hill’) – one of the best wildlife sanctuaries in the country. Together with Bandipur Tiger Reserve and Nagerhole National Park on the Karnataka side, the Wynad National Park on the Kerala side and adjoining forest reserve of Tamil Nadu; it is one of the largest protected forest tracts in the country. The sanctuary is spread over a 1000-meter high plateau that nestles on the breast of the Nilgiri mountains.
The river adventure takes a momentous turn when the coracle reaches a beautiful model village for night stay. The evening comes alive with a swinging campfire with the tribals or the villagers. The best part is the “therukoothu” – a street play focusing on the romantic aspects of tribal life. It is a different world altogether.
Boating
Of course this is a perennially popular sport. You could row yourself if you please or our expert oarsmen will glide you through as you relax and take in the scenic beauty.
Wildlife Watch
This is one of the most exciting experiences that we have lined up for you – a close encounter with the wonderful wildlife in the forest in open jeeps. You could perch upon Machans (tree platforms), to improve the chances of observing wild animals. Animals not commonly seen elsewhere such as the hyena, wild dog and striped hyena can be seen here. Elephants, Indian bison (gaur), spotter deer, sambhar and wild boar are more common. An occasional tiger or leopard sighting is not infrequent. It is ideal bird-watching country.
You could also come across a wide spectrum of wildlife such as lion-tailed macaque, nilgiri langur, malabar giant squirrel, flying squirrel, tiger, panther, pangolin, spotter deer, barking deer, wild boar, dhole, porcupine, nilgiri tahr, civet cat, python, king cobra, vipers monitor lizard and so on.
Wild elephants come next. Like the solitary bull and bison, there are solitary bull elephants. Tiger, of course, are the rare piece-de-resistance. Leopards are greater in number and are often seen by the roadside at dusk. You will also get to see a large number of dholes or red wild dogs, sloth bears and hyenas. There is a variety of small animals – Civets, mongooses, including the stripped neck mongoose, jungle cats including the clawless otter, porcupine, giant squirrel, flying squirrels, the black-naped hare and jackals. It is a real treat for animal-lovers. We take you to the remotest corners of this beautiful country, to places you have only read about.
Tribal Encounter
If you are one who loves people, you will enjoy yourself mixing with a class of humans who have not been tainted by time and civilization. The people inhabiting the Nilgiris from the earliest times consists of the Todas, Badagas, Kotas and Kurumbas in the upper region and Irudas in the lower region.
